Dear Parents/Guardians
It has been a wonderful experience stepping into the Year 9 Deputy Principal role here at Mackay State High School for the past 5 weeks. What a great bunch of students they are! I’ve been Head of Department here for over a decade so the challenge of Deputy Principal was something I was excited to take on. I’ve enjoyed spending significant time with the Year 9 cohort and their families and assisting the students in transitioning from Year 8 into Year 9.
It’s been a pleasure watching these students as they mature and make reasoned and educated choices around their schooling lives. Thank you to Kellie Bryan for stepping into the English Head of Department role and ensuring such a seamless adjustment for both teachers and students. I welcome back Cicely Baira after her period of leave and know that the Year 9s are once again in great hands.
Kind Regards
Claire Blessas - Acting Deputy Principal

The Black Blues Brothers
The international smash hit coming to Australia in 2025
Produced by Mosaico Errante, The Black Blues Brothers has wowed more than 650,000 spectators across 20 countries and established itself as a must-see international show, with numerous sold-out performances, standing ovations, and four- and five-star reviews.
A virtuoso American-style show, as vintage as it is contemporary, spanning generations and continents!
In a Cabaret scenography with the vintage charm of the "Cotton Club", five artists of the famous Nairobi Sarukazi school link jumps, pyramids and the most unbelievable acrobatics one after the other in scenes paying tribute to John Landis' Blues Brothers. An American-inspired show with an electrifying atmosphere, enhanced by an irresistible musical score. Masterful!
A blend of contemporary circus and musical comedy, The Black Blues Brothers is a dynamic show, suitable for audiences of all ages and nationalities.
